The blue dress with the puff sleeves pictured on the left is divine, although I would only feel comfortable buying it after I lost a bit of weight. What I do is make a list of everything I want, and then, when the sales hit…I see what is left and how cheap I can get it. Works every time!
I ONLY buy sweaters when they are on sale. I never pay full price. I got this sweater from Tommy Hilfiger at Macy’s for $30 last January. But I forgot about it! So the other day I was going through my box of sweaters and found it, and it’s so gorgeous. So now I have a cheap new sweater to get me through a bit of the Copenhagen cold. This sweater needs to become a ‘House Sweater’, aka a sweater I wear curled up around the house. $30 is my price point for ‘House Clothes’ or clothes that will get ruined by cats and cooking. But right now, it’s still so new and so nice I haven’t worn it around the cats yet.
I got this entire outfit at the Designers Remix Sample Sale in Copenhagen! The sweater was 400DKK and the pants 250DKK. It was a great deal, especially when you consider how expensive things are in Scandinavia. It’s a super ‘cozy’ look. I won’t lie, I haven’t worn the pants since I took these photos. But I have worn the sweater 6 times in the past 2 weeks. My friend, blogger Luxury Underpass, has a post up on wearing an item at least 30 times. Well, this sweater is currently at 8 and I bought it beginning of October. I love the entire look and I will wear the pants some more!
I got this cute dress from H&M 20% off! I can imagine wearing it on vacation to Italy. For the price, you can’t go wrong. It’s good quality for H&M and it’s super wearable. I can wear this dress while cooking dinner! And that’s the goal. To look pretty all the time at an affordable price.
The hat is also from H&M and the best purchase I have made there in my ENTIRE LIFE. The hat is so amazing I tried to buy another one, but this was the last one they had. I even checked other stores! I was so lucky, I paid $7 bucks or something.
The espadrilles are from Boden.co.uk. I love everything at Boden and they have the greatest customer service I have ever dealt with. Such lovely people, such a lovely store. I enjoy visiting Boden in Sloan Square when I go to London. Americans, check this store out! Europeans, shipping to Europe is only 7 pounds.
When I first bought this dress, I could barely button it up. Well, I was able to button it up the other week. That’s not a big deal, but it’s a weight loss goal achieved. My next goal is to have this dress fit ‘Loosely’ which I think will happen after 5 kg weight loss. I’m 137 lbs right now, so I need to get to 133, then 127, then 123, and finally 120! Let’s keep going!
I admit it! I buy clothing off of Aliexpress.com, and I love it! I’ve bought four items so far: a sweater for fun that smelled like formaldehyde, this lovely dress that had great reviews (it was worn by the actress who played Meghan Markle in the Lifetime movie Harry & Meghan,) a black dress which was too small but nice, and a very nice sweater that is a bit tight because I need to lose weight…sizing is fine. That doesn’t sound like a very good success rate does it? Well, as I told my girlfriend, remember those ‘mystery grab bags’ as a child where you don’t know what you are going to get but that’s half the fun? Exactly! That’s how I feel about clothing off of Aliexpress. However, there are ways to increase your ‘hit’ rate.
- Type in the dress you are looking for such as ‘Black off the shoulder dress’ in the search bar and then press the ‘Orders’ button so you can see which dresses have the highest numbers of orders
- Look at the pictures in the reviews…if the dress looks nice on other people…go for it!
- Remember, sizes run small! Suck up your pride and get the bigger size. Learn to sew.
- Don’t pay more than $30 for a dress, $20 is ideal
- Have $100 dollars play money…consider it gambling, entertainment money…it’s all about the thrill of What May Come
- Find a reputable store, stick with it
- Ask the seller questions about sizing, they are very friendly
- And most importantly…Control yourself! Buying a Kooples dress for $150 or an A.L.C dress for $200 that looks great on you is a better deal than buying off of Aliexpress. Aliexpress is Gambling Fashion, it’s a form of entertainment. Treat it as such.
- Accessories off of Aliexpress are a different beast…hair-clips and earrings SHOULD be bought from Aliexpress because they are the exact same product in stores
I will create an Aliexpress buying guide soon. Until then, enjoy pictures of my dress. It’s a nice dress for Winter paired with my blue coat. I wore it to an event with my husband (pic here) and we took a group photo…I looked awesome! It photographed really well. The silk on the skirt is insanely low quality, but I’ve gotten a lot of joy out of the dress. It feels good to wear it on a coffee date and not stress about ruining it or spilling things. Sometimes, you need clothes that don’t cost that much.
Looking at these photos was hard. I’ve gained so much weight, my body is becoming a middle-aged square box, and my face is one big giant puffball of fat. Truly hideous. But sometimes to solve a problem, you have to confront it head on. So that’s what we are doing today.
A famous Japanese facialist said that as women age, they stop looking in the mirror. But her opinion was that as you age, you should look at yourself in the mirror even more because so much of ageing is preventable.
But it’s hard. Very hard. I have no excuses. I’m a self-employed housewife with a very flexible schedule, the only stress I have in my life is from our struggle to conceive. In fact, my weight gain is now the source of most of my stress and that’s not good.
Anyways, enough about my weight….I bought some new clothes! I got this lovely eyelet top from Vince Camuto. I think it is quite old, I just found it randomly on the rack for a very big discount. French Connection has a similar blouse that looks even better on me than this one, I am waiting for a sale. The sweater is from Lolly’s Laundry (Love it!) and the headband is from H&M (Love it also!) I got some cheap navy shorts from H&M to tie me over until I lose weight and can purchase something a bit more chic.
Next weekend, Nick and I are going to London! It’s just for 3 days. The first day we are exploring Windsor and hopefully getting a glimpse of Meghan, Harry and the new baby at Frogmore Cottage. The second day is half-Windsor, half-London. And the third day is all about shopping in London! I have one whole day for shopping all by myself. So I have to make a game-plan. Here is my list:
My goal with Selfridges is to hit up the food department. It’s like Whole Foods on steroids. Kombucha, organic everything, and the best small farm french yogurt in the world. I’m really into high-quality yogurt…it’s weird but great.
My second goal is to try on clothing from Claudie Pierlot, JBrand, Paige, Theory, and Reiss. I make a list of everything that looks good on me and then scoop it all up during the June/July sales.
I would love to have a dress from Goat Fashion. I can’t afford full-price, but I’m sure I could manage a sale item. The plan is to go to the shop, figure out my size, style and color and wait for the sale.
Oh I can’t wait to shop at Boden! They have the best customer service in the entire world. Their clothes are wonderful. I have had only positive experiences with Boden. I can’t wait to shop, shop, and shop some more! I hope there is a sale, but if there isn’t, I’ll just make a list and buy everything on offer. The best thing about Boden? The petite section!
I need to hit up J.Crew to double check some sizing for some U.S. orders I want to place. If there is a sale, and the prices are close to American prices, then I may buy something.
The White Company is another wonderful U.K. store, almost equal to Pottery Barn in the U.S. I love everything they have, although they are pricey. But the sales are great, and if you have the patience you can get really nice things at a good discount. I’m looking for home decor and clothing.
And finally, my old-fave…French Connection. I just want to pop on in and see if there are a few items that tickle my fancy.
I bought this dress from Baum und Pferdgarten for $40 at their sample sale! I had seen the dress on Boozt.com for around 700-750 dkk which is double. I was so glad to find the dress, I rarely look good in patterns but this one is not so bad. It is jersey and so comfy!
Above I have included some styles available to American audiences. I recommend any dress from Stine Goya and Baum und Pferdgarten in order to get a similar look.
I’m so excited to share these amazing photos we took with Arika from Zion Adventure Photography! The next time me and Nick are in the area we are going to take photos in The Narrows! The landscape photos are from Nick’s iphone.
Jeg er så begejstret for at dele disse billeder fra vores rejse til Utah! Arika fra Zion Adventure Photography gjorde en fantastisk arbejde.
Google is ad-attacking me with BB Dakota clothing. I’m sorry to say it is working. I want the blue dress shown below…and have added it to my list of ‘Sale Stalking’ items.
But I know from purchasing off of AliExpress and from years of sale-hunting that everything appears to be 40-50% overpriced on the website. $88+ tax….for that dress? No honey. It’s crepe/polyester. It’s a super easy piece to create. I’m looking to get this dress for under $50 including tax. Another point of note is that on the Instagram page everyone looks a bit ‘unkempt’ and wrinkly so the fabrics are not high-quality.
But since Google has spammed me non-stop with ads…I have spent some time making a list of my favorite pieces. Enjoy the pretty, but wait for the sale! Remember, clothing options are unlimited, you pay what you WANT to pay.
